The trick with this verb is this: to say "I succeeded" you have to put the verb in the past tense neuter form and add "у меня". The construction is the following:
У КОГО́? + ПОЛУЧИ́ЛОСЬ (+ЧТО? / ЧТО СДЕ́ЛАТЬ?)
У меня́ получило́сь! - I succeeded!
У меня́ не получи́лось. - I didn't succeed.
У него́ получи́лось постро́ить дом. - He succeeded in building a house.
As any other verb, it has an imperfective counterpart получа́ться:
У тебя́ всегда́ всё получа́ется. - You always succeed in everything. (repeated action)
Я не могу́ это сде́лать, у меня́ не получа́ется. - I can't do it. (process)
