So the winter is over, it's the first day of spring. Nevertheless I want to tell you about a winter activity that, to my knowledge, is new to Russia. I mean, I didn't even know the Russian word for it till yesterday. I'm talking about snow tubing. In Russian it's called "ката́ться на ватру́шках"!

You are already familiar with the word "ката́ться" from the expressions like ката́ться на конька́х (to skate), ката́ться на лыжа́х (to ski), ката́ться на велосипе́де (to ride a bike) etc. 

As for ватру́шка [vatrúshka] - it's a Russian curd tart. Inner tubes used for tubing look much like ватру́шки, just much bigger and not as delicious. Check it out yourself!
