It’s a variant of saying in Russian “ДА” to someone’s proposal. Хочешь чай? – С удовольствием! How does it work in your own language?

Слово дня : хорош ó ( adv) – well, all right, O.K. Very useful word! We use it often, for example when answer to the question « Как дела ?» (how are you?) – «Хорош ó »

Today is Sunday, hope you are (already or still) at home. In Russia we use at home special shoes - ТА́ПОЧКИ [tápachki] because there is a good tradition to change shoes when you come home. You may hear in Russia : НАДЕ́НЬ ТА́ПОЧКИ ! (put on slippers), ВОТ ВА́ШИ ТА́ПОЧКИ (here are your slippers). Sometimes you are offered to put on slippers in… art museums in Russia .

If we start to speak about courtesy we do not forget about very important word СПАСИ′БО (thank you). You can hear it not so often in Russia as in other countries (such a pity!), but in any case it’s commonly used. Useful expression БОЛЬШО′Е СПАСИ′БО! (thank you so much).

Слово дня: ПОЖА́ЛУЙСТА (1. please, 2. you are welcome). 1. If you ask smb. to do smth., you like a polite person should add in Russian ПОЖА́ЛУЙСТА! (pronounce “pazhálasta”). For example: Скажи́те, пожа́луйста… (Tell me please…), Дайте, пожалуйста… (Give me please). 2. We use ПОЖА́ЛУЙСТА in Russian like a reply to СПАСИБО (thank you). - Вот ваш билет. (here is your ticket) - Спасибо. - Пожалуйста!

Have you ever been puzzled as to how to say JET LAG in Russian? I have! It turns out that we don't have a word for it and have to use a whole clumsy descriptive construction instead! Рáзница во врéмени [ráznitsa va vrémini] = time difference. Из-за рáзницы во врéмени [izza ráznitsy va vrémini] = because of the time difference I'm jet-lagged. = Я пло́хо себя́ чу́вствую из-за ра́зницы во вре́мени. (Literally - I'm feeling bad because of the time difference.) Не могу́ спать / хочу́ спать из-за ра́зницы во вре́мени = I can't sleep / I'm sleepy because of the time difference. Да, я только что прилетела из Москвы в Японию и совсем не могу спать из-за разницы во времени! ))

Please note that we use 3 different words for home in different situations: дом (noun, m) = home, house, до ́ ма (adverb) = at home and домо ́ й (adverb) = (to) home. Москва мой дом . = Moscow is my home. Я дома. = I ’ m at home . Я иду домой. = I’m going home. How does it work in your native language?
